How to Test the Quality of Aluminum Extrusion?

Profile aluminum testing divided into six categories according to performance, mainly include items: size, hardness (Rockwell, ball indentation, Shore D), density, tensile performance, flaring test, bending performance, flattening test, Charpy impact, cup burst test, torque test, Poisson’s ratio, elements, magnetism, etc.

  1. Profile aluminum metallographic analysis test items: metallographic organization, intergranular corrosion, decarburization layer depth, carburization layer depth, low magnification organization, high magnification microscope organization. grain size and microscopic rating, high temperature metallographic organization, etc.

How does Aluminum Extrusion Work ?

  1. Lift the aluminum rods onto the material rack of the long rod hot shear furnace. ensuring that the rods are positioned flat on the material rack to prevent accidents and mechanical faults.
  2. The typical operation of aluminum bar insertion into the furnace, heating. room-temperature need heating for approximately 3.5 hours . until the temperature reaches around 480 degrees Celsius (normal production temperature). insulation for 1 hour, you can create;
  3. Aluminum bar has heated at the same time. the mold placed in the mold furnace for heating (about 480 degrees Fahrenheit).
  4. After the aluminum bar and die have heated and insulated, the die will be placed in the extruder’s die block.
  5. Operate the long bar hot shear furnace to shear the aluminum bar. then deliver it to the raw material entrance of the extruder. run the extrusion pad to extrude the raw material;
  6. The aluminum profile enters the cooling air stage through the extrusion outlet hole . and tractored and sawed by the traction machine. then transports the aluminum profile to the adjustment table for modulation and straightening. the conveying the straightened aluminum profile to the next table for fixed-length sawing.
  7. The final aluminum profile will be taken by the workers to the aging furnace. where it will shoved into the furnace at approximately 200°C and kept warm for two hours.
  8. As the furnace cools, the ideal hardness is obtained. and the completed aluminum profiles reach the standard dimension.

The causes of corrosion spots and bubbles on the surface of the profile

Reasons for surface corrosion spots

White corrosion spots sometimes appear on the surface of the profile during the extrusion process. and small pockmarks appear on the surface of the profile after the surface oxidation treatment. which are caused by the extrusion process. The reason for this phenomenon is that the surface of the profile is burned due to the high surface temperature when the profile is extruded. In other words, it is caused by too high temperature of die and ingot, or too fast extrusion speed. In order to solve the generation of corrosion spots. the ingot temperature and extrusion speed must be strictly controlled.

 

Causes of surface bubbles

Profile in the extrusion process often appear surface bubbles phenomenon. The causes of bubbles and ingot looseness, the center of the crack and ingot.The presence of gas inside the ingot is related. But the extrusion process is not strictly controlled will also produce bubbles. such as the die end pressure residue cut uneven. pressure residue is too small, the ingot ends cut slope is large. the extrusion barrel cleaning is not clean. extrusion barrel wall damage, etc.. Poor exhaust during the extrusion process. the air inside the metal will also cause bubbles on the surface of the profile.
